You can also drag a Backbone sound directly to the timeline, or into a plugin that supports it, as Groove Agent and HALion do.

So while you could run multiple instances of it, each hosting a different drum sound in order to build up a full Backbone kit, the idea is that you would export your Backbone creations to audio files that could be then used as drum samples. What Backbone isn’t though, is a drum machine. Hopefully that will make for faster updates.Although intended primarily for creating drum sounds, Backbone is excellent for creating special effects too. I hope BFD can keep growing their product so that I can keep supporting the tool I know best. If there is better stuff out there, I almost don’t want to know.

While I do use midi loops, I do a whole lot of custom hits, grooves etc that lend itself to midi… especially if I’m converting it to written music for the above mentioned humans hitting things.Īnyway… being that BFD is the tool I’ve used for so long, it’s the tool I know. The better the demos sound, the less likely a producer/director who doesn’t understand the concept of a demo will approve the music…and I can get the drummer in the room and the job in the can. BFD 1 wasn’t so great with the original sets, but once the Jazz/Funk expansion came out - it was on the money for me. While the music is all over the map (mostly animation) I lean towards a more acoustic jazz/americana/folk/pop. I mostly use BFD for putting together demos for TV/Film that will be eventually replaced by people hitting things with sticks. I still use it (and am hoping to keep using it… clunky on Logic/M1 right now, Rosetta or not). I can definitely see all this changing now BFD seems to be very active again. Humans seem to glom on to a product, product line, or manufacturer and then stick with it, so trying to change minds becomes a steep hill to climb. Is AD the light version of SD? I never got my head round them as I didnt need to But from what I saw in passing, its still being supported whereas BFD Eco seemed to just be left to die on a beach from sunstroke somewhereĪnd like you say, people can be die hard followers, especially once theyve bought into the product line. Personally, its BFD all the way for me, the realism doesnt seem to have any competition at all, but I guess those of us wanting that realism or that can hear the difference are in the minority. Despite the migration problems, development is clearly ongoing and squashing issues regularly. This definitely doesnt seem to be the case from what we’ve seen on here.

The alternative definitely seem to be more popular on the Reaper forum and the consensus seems to be (rightly or wrongly, in my experience so far with BFD, very much wrongly) that inmusic are box shifters (whatever that means in this case) and ‘where software goes to die’. Fresh expansions means more regular fresh reviews and eyes on the main product. I think a regular release of expansion packs has helped the competition stay more well known and used, too. BFD being around for 20 years and up to version 3, SD and AD havent been around any where near as long (did they really both come out after BFD3?, wow), and have way less (initially) confusing interfaces and more of a market push, and BFD did seem to just stall in terms of support, and expansion packs too.

I think what is saying still kinda has merit tho.
